While 16 PSG player are representing their respective countries at the 2026 World Cup, it is time to take a deep look at some of the best and worst performances of PSG players following the end of the opening round.
PSG's biggest winners and losers from the first round of World Cup action
Bradley Barcola - The Frenchman who is rumoured to leave the French capital this summer amid Arsenal and Liverpool's interest was set to battle for a spot in the starting lineup with PSG teammates Désiré Doué. While the former Rennes player was chosen to start, it was Barcola who caught all the attention with a wonderful performance off the bench, making the most of the 15 minutes he spent on the pitch with an important goal. He is undoubtedly the biggest winner of the first round as he could give a massive headache to Didier Deschamps ahead of France's game against Iraq.
Ousmane Dembélé - The 2025 Ballon d'Or did not deliver a good game in France's 3-1 victory over Senegal. He has had tremendous problem when it came time to perform with the national team. Many expect him to be at his best with France, even though, France's system might not put him in the best position to showcase all of his abilities. He will be scrutinised in the next couple of games.
Désiré Doué - The 21-year-old made his World Cup debut with France against Senegal and had some ups and downs, with the latter being the most recurring. In the first half, he was never found in the right spaces and was well-defended by Senegal's defence. On the other side of the ball, his defender went around him easily in the first half, making the Lion of the Teranga, a much more dangerous side. His second half was much better nonetheless, and he made much more differences.
Achraf Hakimi - The Moroccan had a difficult game while his team managed an important 1-1 draw against Brazil. However, the PSG star had to deal with Real Madrid's Vini Jr. the whole game, leaving him with a much difficult task. He still managed to be present offensively, but it opened a lot of space for the Brazilian winger on the counter.
Vitinha - Despite Portugal disappointing 1-1 draw against DR Congo, Vitinha had a good game, showcasing the same level of talent as with PSG. His partnership with Joao Neves and Bruno Fernandes is vital for the Seleçao and they will be expected to lead their team to the top in this tournament.
Joao Neves - The Portuguese midfielder opened the score for Portugal as he debuted in the World Cup. He was efficient on both sides of the ball for his team despite their struggles later in the game.
Nuno Mendes - It was far from being his best outing with the national team. He was maybe not at his best physically as he was subbed off in the second half by his coach. He did not managed to showcase his usual explosiveness throughout the game as well.
