Let’s take a look at the performances of all the PSG players who were involved in the France Senegal game tonight, for both France and Senegal. The European side triumphed 3-1 over the Afcon on-field champions, thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappé and a delicate chip from Bradley Barcola. Ibrahim Mbaye scored a late consolation for Senegal.

Ousmane Dembélé: Disappointing outing for PSG’s star man

Ousmane Dembélé had a game that somewhat reflected the entirety of his national team career: flattering to deceive as others around him stole the spotlight. We have seen over the last two years a new, renewed, and brilliant Dembélé, capable of winning games by himself and of being the star in a dominant side such as PSG. However, that Dembélé looks a long way off the one we saw floundering around the field for France yesterday. In truth, the performance was more reminiscent of the Barcelona Dembélé: some flashes of inspiration, but poor passing and crossing meaning that he was eventually the first France player to be hooked after an uninspiring display. Has to do better against Iraq.

Grade: 3/10

Bradley Barcola: Goalscoring cameo for young starlet

As opposed to Dembélé, Barcola has always been rather good for France: particularly impressive as an impact player in Euro 2024, where he was utilised from the bench. Today’s game exemplified the different type of threat Barcola can provide: his goal was exceptionally well taken, and he is also constantly looking to run in behind rather than asking for the ball to feet. His movement caused problems for the Senegalese defence, and his excellent performance confirmed that Didier Deschamps will perceive Barcola as an extremely useful weapon to bring off the bench in tightly-contested encounters.

Grade: 7/10

Désiré Doué: A disappointing outing for star winger

Doué, like Dembélé, was poor for France tonight. The PSG star constantly lost the ball, and was extremely wasteful and frustrating in possession, wasting a number of chances to release the ball. His second half was marginally better, and he tested Edouard Mendy with a low strike midway through the second period, but overall it was a poor game from a young man with tremendous talent. Doué is rarely at his best when picking the ball up deep in his own half, however, and given that this was the scenario in which he picked the ball up most often, some of the fault for his poor performance must lie at the door of Didier Deschamps.

Grade: 4/10

Ibrahim Mbaye: Brilliant goal for young winger who will now look to start vs Norway

Mbaye came off the bench to replace Ismaila Sarr for Senegal, and scored a stunning goal, weaving past a couple of French defenders before firing low and through Mike Maignan. Mbaye’s excellent impact will be a reminder for Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw of the talent he has at his disposal, and he will look to start Senegal’s next game vs Norway following his fine impact off the bench in this encounter.
