Amanda Ilestedt and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed to break their relationship. The Parisian club announced the end of their journey together two years after the Swedish defender joined PSG.
Ilestedt becomes the fourth player to depart from PSG since the transfer window opened, along with Ashley Lawrence, Kheira Hamraoui, and Barbora Votikova.
Amanda became one of the most dependable defenders for PSG back in 2021/22, and at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. However, after she picked up an injury that kept her out for almost the whole second half of the season, her impact couldn't be felt on the pitch.
This news comes as a bit of a shock as it was believed that PSG were planning on extending her contract. That could have been the case with Ilestedt just refusing to ink that extension, or perhaps PSG didn't really offer a new contract to her in a surprising twist. Either way, Ilestedt will no longer be a PSG player.
This comes just a few days after the defender was chosen for the upcoming Women's World Cup, where Ilestedt will hope to bring Sweden glory after coming to a close in the past few years in both the WC and the European Championship.
As of this writing, there haven't been reports on which clubs will try to sign Ilestedt. As previously mentioned, it didn't seem she would be exiting the capital so this is still a very fresh story pending development once her exit from Paris was confirmed just a few hours ago.
Amanda Ilestedt bids goodbye to PSG, fans react
After the news came out, fans of the club once again expressed their anger with the club for letting some of the best players leave and not recruiting anyone to fill the hole she will leave in the team's roster.
Of course, PSG will be attempting to sign new players during the next few months, but there hasn't been any progress with any of their transfer targets in the early days of the summer.
One fan commented on how the transfer market is going thus far and said, "They managed to do worse than last season; congratulations!" A sarcastic message directed at the fact PSG again losing players and not replacing them.
Another fan wrote, "Why let her go? She had to be offered an extension. Paris have to extend Diani, Katoto, and Geyoro, or we'll start to lose our best players!"
In a nutshell, the comments were flooded with frustration as PSG could not keep Ilestedt in their squad or just didn't want to.
So far, PSG have only re-signed Goalkeeper Katarzyna Kiedrzynek and signed Oceane Toussaint on her first professional contract.
Transfer targets such as Viola Calligaris, Tabitha Chawinga, and Froya Dorsin have had no further progress on their potential moves to the club with negotiations stalling of late.
We wish Amanda Ilestedt good luck for the future!
