The first name coming to mind is obviously Ousmane Dembélé, the 2025 Ballon d'Or is the best PSG player taking part in the tournament. After a complicated start this season due to many injuries, he still managed to end the campaign with a bang, leading his side to a second consecutive Champions League final, while earning Ligue 1 Player of the season honours.

Vitinha will be a key player for Portugal as Cristiano Ronaldo gears up for his sixth World Cup. Since the last tournament, the 26-year-old has become the best midfielder in the world and will do everything to win the first World Cup in the history of his country. Alongside PSG teammates Joao Neves and Nuno Mendes, and Manchester captain Bruno Fernandes they have a real chance to do it.

Young players who could break out in 2026

It is going to be Désiré Doué's first World Cup, the 20-year-old who secured his second consecutive Ligue 1 Player of the season award has become a key player of a dominant PSG team, with many having his Champions League final performance etched in their minds. He already proved that he could do it at the highest European level. However, the 2025 Golden Boy still has to prove that he could shine on the biggest stage of world football.

It will also be the first World Cup for Warren Zaire-Emery. The Frenchman has become important for the Parisians after a remarkable season, which then earned him a spot in Didier Deschamps' 26-men squad. While he is not expected to be a key member of the France national team during the competition, he could still be important coming off the bench.
