The international break has put club football on hold for two weeks, with countries around the globe playing in friendlies or World Cup qualifiers. There are some big countries, such as Türkiye and Italy, that have not qualified for the tournament yet, which is remarkable when you consider the quality that they have at their disposal. 17 PSG players were called up during the March international break for their country.

Here at PSG Post, we discuss the importance of the international break for the club and players.

Why this international window is crucial for PSG players?

The break comes before the final push of the season

Les Parisiens are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where they will play against Arne Slot's Liverpool. The matches will take place on Wednesday, 8th April, and Tuesday, 14th April. Those are PSG's biggest games of the season thus far, as the Champions League is the competition that means the most to the club. The league is not wrapped up, as they are only one point ahead of second-place Lens with a game in hand. They have to play against Lens at Stade Bollaert Delelis on the 11th April. However, that fixture could be postponed to help Paris in their bid for the Champions League which created a conflict with Les Sang et Or. Nonetheless, that fixture could go a long way to deciding who wins the title.

Players can prove themselves for the World Cup

This break will give international managers a chance to assess the players they could potentially call up for the World Cup. While some players, such as Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doue, Warren Zaire Emery, Bradley Barcola, and Lucas Hernandez, are almost guaranteed a place in France's World Cup squad, Lucas Chevalier has still got work to do after being demoted to third-choice goalkeeper. Despite being called up for Portugal's March internationals, Goncalo Ramos still needs to work harder if he is to be assured a place in Portugal's World Cup squad.

It gives time for the injured players to recover

This international break will give players who are currently sidelined a chance to recover from their respective injuries. Senny Mayulu (calf), Fabian Ruiz (knee), and Bradley Barcola (ankle ligament) injuries won't hinder the French champions, as they will not be playing for weeks. If a Champions League game were around the corner, it would have been an issue, as there would have been no chance of them featuring. The players will not be rushed back as there is no game until Friday, 3rd April. Les Parisiens should be able to cope without those three players, as they have more than adequate cover.
