Ahead of their Round of 16 clashes against Chelsea in the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain managed to postponed their Ligue 1 game against relegation-threatened Nantes. The League game was scheduled to take place between the two legs and gave a significant advantage to the European Champions who were able to rest between the two crucial games that saw them easily dominate the Blues 5-2 and 3-0.

The whole process have been made easy by Nantes' compliance as they agreed to help Paris in their bid to another Champions League title.

Therefore, the Parisians hoped to repeat the process and postponed their upcoming clash against Ligue 1 title contenders Lens to increase their chances against Liverpool in the next round of the competition. They have been drawn to the Reds and are set to play both legs on April 8 and April 14 with their clash against Lens scheduled in-between on April 11.

PSG's bid for postponement set to be examined

RC Lens currently sit at the second spot in Ligue 1, just one point behind Paris who have a game in hand. This upcoming clash on April 11 could be decisive for the league title race as Lens is chasing their their first Ligue trophy since 1998. Les Sangs-et-Ors have already rejected the possibility of a report, leaving the decision with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP).

A club statement read: "Changing the date of this match today would mean, for Racing Club de Lens, being deprived of competition for 15 days and then chaining matches every three days - a rhythm that corresponds neither to the one defined at the start of the season, nor to the resources of a club that could absorb this type of new constraint without consequence.

“It would therefore be understood that the tenth budget in the league should adapt to the demands of the most powerful, in the name of interests that, evidently, now extend beyond the domestic framework, which has already been lightened in recent seasons."

Obviously, Lens have opposed the request stating that it would risk the sporting fairness of the league as it would have a potential devastating impact on their title chance as Paris likely have the fire power to compete on all fronts, which is something Lens can't do.

The LFP board is set to meet on Thursday to make a final decision on the possible postponement, with the expectation being that the fixture will be postponed as the LFP previously showed their intent to help French clubs playing in Europe.

Additionally, in the eventuality that Paris were to defeat Liverpool and qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League, they will not be able to request another postponement after using all their allocated demands.
