Which areas does PSG need to strengthen to improve this offseason?

The World Cup finished last Sunday with Spain beating Argentina 1-0 in extra time courtesy of a strike by Ferran Torres. Luis de la Fuente's side deserved the victory on the day as Argentina were too defensive and wanted to take the game to penalties. Now that the tournament has concluded, the transfer window can take shape for clubs around the continent (Europe).

Luis Enrique can look to strengthen a squad that retained the Champions League last season when they defeated Arsenal on penalties. Here at PSG Post, we discuss the areas that PSG needs to strengthen this transfer window.

Three positions that PSG need to improve ahead of the 2026-2027 season

Right back

Les Parisiens need a backup right back for Achraf Hakimi this upcoming season. The Moroccan international is arguably the best right back in the world, but he can't play in every game for the European champions, or he would risk burnout. Warren Zaire-Emery can feature at right back, but that wouldn't be ideal as there wouldn't be much cover for Vitinha or Joao Neves aside from Senny Mayulu. The club should do all it can to fend off interest from Manchester United for the 20-year-old, as they don't have much depth in that position.

Striker

PSG needs to sign a backup striker for Ousmane Dembélé, as Gonçalo Ramos has joined AC Milan for a club record fee of more than £70 million. They have been linked to Barcelona's backup striker, Ferran Torres, who scored the winning goal for Spain at the World Cup. It will not be an easy deal to get over the line, as other clubs such as Arsenal and Real Madrid are interested in the player. The club can't rely on Dembélé for a whole season as he tends to pick up niggling injuries. Luis Enrique's side is competing on multiple fonts so they can't afford to go through the entire campaign without someone who can fill in for the current Ballon d'Or winner.

Right/Left winger

The French champions need a backup winger for Khvicha and Désiré Doué, as Kang-in Lee was surplus to requirements. The South Korean has now officially joined Atletico Madrid for a fee estimated at 40 million euros. The club has recently been linked to French international Maghnes Akliouche and Ivorian Yan Diomande. The Ivory Coast international will be a harder deal to complete as Leipzig wants £120 million or no sale. Meanwhile, the Reds have opened the door to sign Akliouche as well this summer. It is hard to imagine PSG paying that much for him, particularly if Bradley Barcola doesn't move to Liverpool or Arsenal.
