Just 74 days after Paris Saint-Germain retained the Champions League trophy in Budapest, the back-to-back European champions return to competitive action in the UEFA Super Cup. Once again, Luis Enrique's team are up against English opposition, this time taking on Europa League winners Aston Villa. So, here is everything you need to know as PSG seek their first silverware of the season.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa kicks off at 9pm local time, which is the same time as in France. This is 8pm in the United Kingdom and 3pm on the East Coast of the United States, as well as noon on the West Coast.

Where is the UEFA Super Cup being played?

The UEFA Super Cup is taking place at Stadion Wals-Siezenheim, known as Red Bull Arena. Opened in 2003, the 29,520 capacity venue was built ahead of Euro 2008, hosting three Group D matches, all featuring holders Greece as they were beaten by Sweden, Russia and eventual winners Spain. It is the home of 17-times Austrian Bundesliga champions RB Salzburg.

Between 1998 and 2012, every edition of the UEFA Super Cup took place at Stade Louis II in Monaco. Since then however, it has been played all across Europe. The previous host cities have been Prague, Cardiff, Tbilisi, Trondheim, Skopje, Tallinn, İstanbul, Budapest, Belfast, Helsinki, Piraeus, Warsaw and Udine. This will be the first time ever that the fixture has been played in Austria.

Why are PSG playing Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup?

Since being introduced in 1973, the UEFA Super Cup sees the winners of UEFA's two most prestigious competitions go head-to-head. After the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was abolished in 1999, this has seen the Champions League holders take on the UEFA Cup, now Europa League, winners.

Paris Saint-Germain beat Arsenal in May's Champions League Final at the Puskás Aréna, prevailing on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Aston Villa meantime swatted aside Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League Final in İstanbul. The Villans are now seeking a second Super Cup triumph, defeating Barcelona 3-1 on aggregate after extra time to capture the trophy under Tony Barton in 1982.

This is les Rouge-et-Bleu's third Super Cup appearance. Les Parisiens were annihilated 9-2 on aggregate by Juventus back in 1996, hammered 6-1 at Parc des Princes and then 3-1 at La Favorita. Last year though, Lucho's team fought back from 2-0 down to beat Tottenham at Stadio Friuli. PSG scored twice in the final five minutes to salvage a penalty shootout, in which they prevailed 4-3.

PSG team news vs Aston Villa

Following the World Cup, PSG have played just two pre-season friendlies, beaten 3-0 by Mallorca at Son Moix, before drawing 1-1 with Manchester United at Nya Ullevi in Göteborg on Saturday.

Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, João Neves and Vitinha all came off the bench in the latter. Meanwhile, none of Achraf Hakimi, Fabián Ruiz, Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernandez nor new signings Maghnes Akliouche and Lucas Digne have played a single minute during pre-season. Thus, it remains to be seen who, if any, will be involved here.

Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki is poised to join from Parma for €35 million but, for now, Matvey Safonov will continue to don the gloves.

Can PSG add another European trophy?

In the last 15 months, not only have Paris Saint-Germain won their first two Champions League titles, they've also picked up last summer's Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. To claim that, last December, they overcame Flamengo 2-1 in a shootout in Qatar, following a 1-1 draw.

Prior to this, PSG's only non-domestic title was the Cup Winners' Cup in 1996. Overall, just one other French club have ever won a European trophy, namely fierce rivals Olympique de Marseille, who were Champions League winners in 1993.

Now, Lucho's side could commence the new campaign with two more titles. Ligue 1 champions PSG will face Coupe de France winners Lens in the Trophée des Champions at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Sunday night, before commencing the new league season against Stade Rennais.
