Paris Saint-Germain secured a thrilling victory over their league rivals AS Monaco showcasing resilience, grit and determination. The match saw PSG take an early lead in the 24th minute, only to face a quick turnaround as Monaco equalized in the 53rd minute and then took a 2-1 lead just seven minutes later. However, PSG displayed mental fortitude as Gonçalo Ramos' late winner in the 83rd minute secured them the three points keeping PSG's perfect run in the league intact.
Match Breakdown:
PSG came to the Stade Louis II with great confidence as they manage to beat Olympique Lyonnais
convincingly and remained unbeaten in the league and their confidence was very visible on the pitch as they started the game in a dominating fashion. An excellent assist from Achraf Hakimi set up Desire Doue, a compelling in-behind run and devious fake shot as Doue gets his first Ligue 1 goal for Paris Saint-Germain and his second in consecutive games.
The party was cut short, however, by AS Monaco following a terrible sequence by Paris Saint-Germain's captain Marquinhos who gifted the ball to Akliouche, who surged into the box to win a penalty. Unfortunately, Nuno Mendes' clearance was deflected by Marquinhos' hand. Ben Seghir then scored a near perfect penalty hitting the side net. Seven minutes later, the game took another turn as Embolo's shot hit the back of the net giving Monaco the lead. And just when everyone thought PSG bottled their lead like countless other times, Ousmane Dembele aka 'Dembouz' finished an easy chance as Monaco's goalkeeper Köhn spilled the ball right in front of him.
In the 83rd, PSG won a corner and with retrospect we can say that they didn't just won a corner but the game as Kang-In Lee delivered a peach of a cross for Gonçalo to head it in the goal. As PSG took the lead in the dying minutes, AS Monaco had no other option but to push up leaving acres of space for PSG speedsters to run into. And that is exactly what Ousmane Dembélé did as Fabian Ruiz put him through with a long ball. The France international then chipped beautifully the ball over Monaco's keeper putting the game to bed with a 90+7' dagger.
Key players and moments:
Gianluigi Donnarumma suffered a facial gash from Wilfried Singo's cleats in the 22nd minute and was forced to leave the pitch. Though, it wasn't intentional from the Ivory Coast international, a card should've been shown following this challenge, a yellow or red card would have been appropriate.
PSG’s Unbeaten Run:
With this victory, PSG remained the only undefeated team in Ligue 1. The club is now 10 points ahead of the 2nd team in the standings. More importantly, with a fully fit squad, the Les Parisiens surely have already one hand on ththe new Ligue 1 McDonald's trophy.
However, what everyone will be looking for is how they do in Europe. With a manager who understands what he has in his artillery, his possession based football is looking more threatening, Paris Saint-Germain are well and truly back.
