Paris Saint-Germain currently has two of their defenders sidelined with long-term injuries. We’re referring to Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez, both left-footed centre-backs, as well as young talents Willian Pacho and Lucas Beraldo.

During the last summer transfer window, there were numerous rumours linking PSG with various defenders, and they eventually signed Ecuadorian Pacho for €40 million from Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, with Kimpembe and Hernandez’s injury situation, PSG appears to remain vigilant, keeping an eye on potential signings for future transfer windows.

In this context, the recent information shared by TBR Football (h/t Foot01) becomes significant, revealing that PSG sent scouts to watch the match between Tottenham and Arsenal to observe two Gunners defenders: William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

William Saliba has recently also been linked to Real Madrid, while Gabriel has been associated with clubs such as FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich. This means PSG would face fierce competition if they pursue either of these players.

The report suggests that Arsenal is already working on renewing the contract of Brazilian defender Gabriel, who previously played for LOSC Lille, to prevent PSG or another major club from tempting him. Nevertheless, Gabriel still has three years remaining on his contract with the Gunners, so there is no immediate rush.

In a way, it is understandable that PSG is looking to strengthen their defence, although it is somewhat surprising given their recent renewal of Presnel Kimpembe's contract. Kimpembe is not old and is well-loved by the fans. However, there is no guarantee he will return to elite form after his serious injury, which has kept him off the pitch for over a year.

On the other hand, Pacho and Beraldo seem to have Luis Enrique's confidence. However, during the summer transfer window, there were rumours about a potential departure for Milan Skriniar, and Danilo Pereira eventually left the Parisian club. This could indicate that the club is preparing for Skriniar’s possible future departure, and even Marquinhos’s eventual exit.
