The winter break is fast approaching, with only one game left against RC Lens in the Coupe de France to end the year. It is time to work on our wishlist for the second part of PSG's season.
Champions League football
The most important wish for the second part of the season for PSG and any of their followers is without a doubt to qualify for the next round of the new Champions League format. The task is, to say the least very complicated and the chances to succeed are low. Luis Enrique's side is sitting at the 25th spot of the table, with only seven points, just outside the qualifying spots. To see the next round of the Champions League at the Parc des Princes, Les Parisiens will have to face-off with Manchester City on January 22th, in a must-win game to keep their hopes of qualification alive. At the moment, Pep Guardiola's side is going through the worst form they ever had since the Spaniard took over the club eight years ago. Which means it might be the best time to welcome City in the French capital for Champions League football.
Finish the season unbeaten in Ligue 1
Paris Saint-Germain ended the first half of the Ligue 1 McDonald's unbeaten following their convincing 4-2 victory over AS Monaco. In the whole history of the league, only one team came close to finish a season unbeaten, the 1994-95 FC Nantes. The team led by Jean-Claude Suaudeau only lost one game that season, including a 32-game unbeaten run, a record later equalled by PSG in 2015-16. The prospect of Paris going a whole season unbeaten has been in everyone's mind seen the club's been taken over by QSI, but it is easier said than done. To write history Les Rouges et Bleus, will have stay unbeaten while navigating a tough schedule in the eventuality they qualify for the next round of the Champions League. If not, it could be easier to achieve such a feat with an alledged schedule for the second half of the season and write an other page of Ligue 1's history.
Avoid key players injuries
Our last wish for the end of this season is quite simple, avoid too many injuries for key players of the squad. The season started with Luis Enrique missing Lucas Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe and then lost Gonçalo Ramos for the first official game of the season. Avoiding injuries for players such as Hakimi, Vitinha or Marquinhos is primordial, as the team might lack of a real back up option at the right back position, but also of leaders that could step up in case of a prolonged absenc of one of them. If the team wants to reach their goals, the Spaniard coach will need to count on the totality of his players.
Hopefully, PSG will see all those wishes granted as they will look forward to achieve great things in the second part of the season.
