Paris Saint-Germain have made an official bid to postpone their Ligue 1 clash against Lens to give them a better chance to prepare for their upcoming Champions League quarter-finals clash against Liverpool. The European Champions were able to move their game against relegation-threatened Nantes that was scheduled in-between both legs of their Champions League Round of 16 against Chelsea, which helped them secure two dominant 5-2 and 3-0 victories.
Luis Enrique are scheduled to face Lens in a decisive league game on April 11 while facing the Reds on April 8 and April 14. Les Sang et Or have vehemently rejected the possibility of postponing the game against the Parisians, stating that it would risk the sporting fairness of the league with Pierre Sage's team sitting just one point behind Paris in the table. Even though, Lens refused to consent to postpone the game, the last decision will be taken by the LFP with the board set to meet on Thursday.
Javier Tebas: 'PSG have power because others keep quiet'
"In an interview given to French outlet L'Equipe, Javier Tebas said: "The issue at stake is a more fundamental one: that of the respect due to the competition itself.”
“Personally, I note that PSG has a key role in the media, notably through BeIN Sports. I hear what some clubs are saying, but PSG’s power relies on the silence of all of the others. PSG have power because others keep quiet. In other words, if PSG have power, it is because most clubs say nothing, because they don’t dare. This dynamic must be broken in French football, in my opinion. That doesn’t mean that PSG won’t remain the best team in France or that they won’t be competitive, but it isn’t necessary to exercise such power.”
The La Liga boss is used to this kind of attacks, with many targeted towards Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG or their president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. However, this dig was not only made to hit out at PSG but also to other French football club who are accused of letting Paris dominate them.
Despite Tebas' beliefs, many French clubs do oppose PSG on many matter such as Marseille or more recently Lens who fought back on the postponement of their game to accommodate PSG in their bid for the Champions League.
Liverpool who also have a game in-between the two legs of the Champions League tie against Paris would also prefer the Parisians to be on the same boat as themm and play against Lens on April 11.
