Having won their previous two games due to last minute goals, PSG last night found things a lot easier, as they cruised to a 3-0 home win against Le Havre. Kang-In Lee, who followed up on his excellent performance against Lyon with another standout display here, scored the opener, and was a constant threat to Le Havre all night, creating chances from the right half space with a panache that will start to create selection headaches for Luis Enrique.
Kang-In Lee shine in 3-0 victory over Le Havre
PSG furthered their lead through Joao Neves, who continued his fine goalscoring form (having also notched for Portugal in the international break). This was Neves’ 5th Ligue Un goal of the season, and every Parisian fan will be delighted if Neves manages to continue adding goals to his game on a consistent basis. The midfielder almost seems to have a poacher’s instinct, timing his runs into the box with an expertise almost reminiscent of midfielders like Blaise Matuidi who graced the Parc des Princes with fine goalscoring records of their own.
PSG fans will also be delighted with the identity of the third goalscorer, Bradley Barcola, who put some troubles in front of goal this season firmly behind him as he applied a clinical finish to the one on one opportunity that fell his way with three minutes left on the clock.
Overall it was an extremely positive result for Luis Enrique’s side, and one that will increase the confidence of PSG fans, as it highlighted a squad depth and showcased improved performances from players who have not necessarily been at their very best so far this season. Even the much scrutinised Lucas Chevalier put in an excellent display (without question his finest hour in a PSG shirt so far) and kept a well deserved clean sheet, with one highlight being an early reflex save that denied Yassine Kechta.
Kang In Lee’s aforementioned display was also a source of encouragement, as it meant that Enrique has more options in attack, over a period in which attacking depth has been hit hard by the well documented injury crisis that has haunted PSG like a spectre over the first few months of the season. Neves’s goal will also be encouraging as it means that PSG are increasingly able to rely on their midfielders to chip in and contribute to PSG’s attacking output. Even Barcola’s goal represents a big boost – as his form had been poor over the last few months (to the extent that he essentially has become a bit part player, second choice behind youngster Senny Mayulu) but fans of PSG will hope that this goal signals renewed confidence for the young Frenchman, whose talent is undeniable.
The win sent the Parisians back to the top of the league, still two points ahead of Marseille and Lens. PSG now look ahead to Wednesday’s clash against Tottenham in the Champions League in which they will hope to return to winning ways in Europe, having won their first three continental encounters but lost their last game against Bayern Munich.
