Achraf Hakimi is certainly the best right back in the world this season. The Morocco international excelled in almost every game he played whether it was for club or country. At the beginning of his career, the former Real Madrid player was mostly known for his offensive abilities, however, the last couple of seasons showed that he was more than that.
From defender to team leader
The 26-year-old who recently extended his contract with the club until 2029, is flourishing under Luis Enrique's style and became one of the leader of the team, showing his commitment to the club, despite interests from some of the best clubs in the world (Real Madrid, Man City).
In a recent interview given to PSG TV, the Moroccan star shared his feelings for the club reaffirming his commitment: "I'm very happy and very proud to be able to wear the captain's armband at PSG. I hope I can stay here at PSG for a long time and bring pride to all Parisians."
Hakimi joined the club back in July 2021 from Inter Milan and played 141 games for Paris Saint-Germain across three and a half seasons, winning many titles, including three league titles, one French Cup and two Trophée des Champions. Since he signed for the club, the Moroccan never stopped to progress proving years after years that he was without a doubt one of the most reliable player in the squad. His importance at the club even grew bigger following the cumulated departure of players such as Messi, Neymar Jr. and Mbappé. He is now one of the most important players at the club.
This season, in a team with a very young core, Hakimi's new responsibilities as vice captain never seemed to weigh him down. It was the complete opposite, he now seems in total control of his game and proved himself to be a leader on and off the pitch for his teammates. He featured in 21 games so far and delivered seven assists while scoring three goals across all competition.
Furthermore, Hakimi's relationship with his Spaniard coach, Luis Enrique appears to be almost perfect which certainly played a big part in his decision to extend his contract with the club.
"He's a top player, he brings a unique energy, said Luis Enrique. "He has things to improve and we will help him."
The Moroccan star will aim to lead Paris Saint-Germain to new heights as the team will hope to keep their chances for Champions League qualification alive, starting with a must-win game against Manchester City.
