Neymar Jr., former Paris Saint-Germain star, reflected on his time in the French capital during an interview with Bartoli Time show on RMC on Sunday.
The Brazilian spent seven years with Les Rouges et Bleus, playing 173 games with the club, scoring 118 goals and won many trophies, including five Ligue 1 titles, three Coupe de France and four Trophée des Champions and led the club to their only Champions League final appearance. However, despite all the good moments, the Al-Hilal player keeps a bittersweet memory of his spell at the club.
Neymar reflects on his time at PSG
A year and a half after his departure from the club, Neymar Jr. decided to share his feelings on his seven-year tenure at PSG.
"I agree when people say my best years were at PSG", Neymar said. "But it was really sad for me because I suffered from many injuries that lasted 3,4,6 months sometimes. But in terms of football, it was the best Neymar they had in my career."
"So I am happy that I showed that to French football fans. However, there is also a feeling of sadness, I never played a full season, only in 2020 when we reached the Champions League final. It was a great year, I will never forget these moments."
The Brazilian then expressed his feeling on his tumultuous relationship with the fans of the club. A difficult ending as Neymar Jr. saw fans protesting in front of his house for him to leave the club in 2023.
"The first year was wonderful, I received a warm welcome from the people and fans of the club. But the last two, three years were different. I was not great the way I was treated, same for Lionel Messi. For me there was injustice, because I always gave everything on the pitch, now I am not bitter but I was a bit sad of the way I was treated by some fans."
"Most specifically when they came to my house, they tried to get in. They insulted me, tried to hit me, they went too far that day. There was no more respect between us (the fans). I was sad by the way I was treated at the end but now it's in the past. My relationship with the fans is unfortunately part of the sad moments. It's all in the past and my conscious is clear about it now."
Neymar Jr. then ended his interview stating he had no hard feeling towards the club as he wish them the best, even though it is not the same for the members of the board.
