While Nasser Al-Khelaifi and PSG look to postpone their upcoming Ligue 1 clash against Lens to prepare the two legs of their Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool. 17 PSG players flew out to represent their respective countries in the last International window before the 2026 World Cup.
Here are four exciting things that PSG fans can look out for over this International break.
Four things for PSG fans to look out for over the international window
1) A France team full of superstars
PSG fans will be excited to see two of their star forwards in action for one of the world cup favourites, the French national team. Both Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé have been hit and miss at times for the national side, with perhaps Dembélé’s lowest ever moment being his dramatic withdrawal in the first half of the 2022 World Cup final, but this time there is a sense that both players are going into this World Cup in fine form and returning from injuries – both have looked like being back to something like their sharpest form in recent weeks and the prospect of seeing them combine with attacking talents such as Kylian Mbappé and Michael Olise is very exciting.
How exactly the French will line up in attack will also be interesting: Doué may not even be a guaranteed starter given the recent form of Rayan Cherki at Manchester City, and it will be interesting to see whether Didier Deschamps opts to play Dembélé at false nine where he has now been deployed at PSG, or if he prefers him on either wing.
Elsewhere, Deschamps has also selected Lucas Chevalier, Lucas Hernandez and Warren Zaire Emery – the latter of whom could yet stake a claim to a starting place in a French midfield that looks far less stacked up than France’s attack.
2) Portugal include Joao Neves alongside Vitinha, but is the youngster fully fit yet?
Portugal manager Roberto Martinez has opted to include Joao Neves in his squad, despite some recent fitness concerns. PSG fans will be interested to see if and how much he plays – and also to see whether he and Vitinha can recreate the midfield partnership that has served PSG so well in the last couple of seasons. Supporters of the European Champions will also be excited to see their star left-back Nuno Mendes in action, as Martinez’s side prepare to take on two of this summer’s world cup hosts, Mexico and United States, in this round of friendly games.
3) Marquinhos up against his club colleagues in glamour friendly
France vs Brazil on Thursday is possibly the most glamourous and inciting of all the friendlies that will be on display over these two weeks. It will be especially interesting for PSG supporters as they may witness their captain and legendary defender Marquinhos captain his national team against some of his club colleagues, including the aforementioned star attackers.
4) Hakimi captain as Morocco eye friendlies vs Ecuador and Paraguay
Achraf Hakimi will feature against two South American sides as Morocco, who stunned the world by reaching the Semi-final stage of the last World Cup, prepare for the 2026 tournament by playing Ecuador and Paraguay. Perhaps the thinking for Morocco is that this will start prepare them for their group games against Brazil and Haiti – with Scotland being in the other side in that tricky looking qualifying group. If Morocco are to progress and impress once again at this summer’s tournament, it is safe to say that Hakimi will be a key figure once again.
