Paris will face Marseille in a much anticipated clash in the Trophée des Champions which will give them an opportunity to lift the first trophy of the season. While Marseille have had some concerns following their disappointing loss to Nantes, Paris Saint-Germain saw Paris FC off 2-1 in the derby, closing the gap to just one point behind RC Lens in the table.

Here are the top 3 reasons to watch the Trophée des Champions clash between PSG and Marseille.

3 reasons to watch PSG vs Marseille in the Trophée des Champions

1) PSG will look for revenge

The upcoming Trophée des Champions between PSG and Marseille is not only a clash between two rivals, but the opportunity for the European Champions to take revenge after the 1-0 loss suffered at the Stade Vélodrome earlier this season. Even though, many fans will highlight that many key players were missing from this game, including Ousmane Dembélé who received the Ballon d'Or on the same night.

While the Parisians have dominated the rivalry over the last 10 years, that the loss in September was a clear reminder that Marseille can be a worthy opponent in the next few years. This game will be the perfect occasion to not only get revenge but also to assert their dominance over their eternal rivals.

2) A chance to lift the first trophy of the season

After lifting six trophies in 2025, the greatest year in the history of the club, Paris are set to clash with Marseille in the Trophée des Champions. It will be the first opportunity for Luis Enrique and his team to win their first title of 2026.

Last season, it was not only their home victory against Manchester City who kickstarted their unbelievable run in 2025 but also their narrow win over AS Monaco in the Trophée des Champions. This success was important to prove that this team was able to win trophies and do it in dramatic fashion.

Let's hope that this upcoming battle against Marseille can bare the same weight on PSG's season as it did last season.

3) Domestic dominance

Since the arrival of QSI at the club in 2011, Paris Saint-Germain have become a dominant force in Europe but also domestically. They have managed to win the league and all the cups almost every year and while no one has been able to challenge them over a significant period of time, a win against Marseille will reassert their dominance over the league.

However, Marseille, despite a difficult period as of late remain one of the toughest opponent for this PSG side while holding all the cards to become in the future a club able to challenge Paris sustainably over the next few years.
