After looking at the PSG players who have been disappointing and failed to reach the expected heights so far in the 2026 World Cup, let's have a look at the players who are exceeding expectations after five games.

Three PSG players who have overperformed so far at the 2026 World Cup

1- Ousmane Dembélé

Saying that the 2025 Ballon d'Or is the biggest surprise and is overperforming in this World Cup says quite a lot about his struggles with the national team. Before the tournament, Ousmane Dembélé had just scored seven goals for France and zero in the World Cup in 13 appearances.

With his Ballon d'Or status many expected him to be one of the leaders of this team alongside Kylian Mbappé and he clearly delivered. After five games in the competition, the 28-year-old scored 4 goals and delivered two assists, including an incredible first half hattrick against Norway.

He has clearly proved that he is one of the most lethal players in the world and seem perfectly in sync with his offensive teammates while being as decisive as he is with PSG under Luis Enrique.

2- Bradley Barcola

Bradley is undoubtedly one of the most exciting PSG players taking part in the 2026 World Cup. The 23-year-old winger started this competition with several transfer rumours surrounding him and was expected to be a quality super-sub for Didier Deschamps' team. However, after a remarkable substitute performance in the 3-1 victory over Senegal in the opener, a game where he scored his first World Cup goal, and he earned a starting role against Iraq in the second group stage game.

Despite his status and his ongoing battle with PSG teammates Désiré Doué, he managed to thrive, contributing for two goals and one assist in the most dangerous attack of the tournament. Therefore, he has already surpassed all the expectations.

3- Marquinhos

The Brazilian defender is having a superb tournament with his national team and made their way to the Round of 16 of the World Cup where a clash against Norway and Erling Haaland awaits. Up to this point, his partnership with Arsenal's Gabriel has been fruitful for Carlo Ancelotti's team. Brazil have only conceded two goals across four games and while they seem less attractive offensively, they remain a side with a really solid defensive base thanks to the 31-year-old.

He is once again proving that he is a top level players able to deliver on the highest stage after two consecutive Champions League victories.
