On Tuesday, PSG was outclassed by Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich and were handed their first European defeat of the season while the German giants secured their 16th consecutive victory of the season.
However, the loss was not the worst memory of the night for Luis Enrique and his team as they were dealt three more injury blows to their squad with Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes and Ousmane Dembélé suffering from injuries that will keep them sidelined for weeks. Additionally, Désiré Doué who have recently been named 2025 Golden Boy, suffered another injury setback against Lorient, adding his name to the never-ending injury list of the team.
The Moroccan will be sidelined for at least six to eight weeks with his ankle injury while Mendes and Dembélé are set to miss at least four weeks of competition. These long term injuries will therefore push Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi to look on the market to replace their key players while they recover. To reinforce their injury-plagued squad, the board is reportedly showing interest for Eric Garcia, Barcelona defender.
Why PSG needs to sign Eric Garcia in January?
According to report from L'Equipe, Paris are interested to sign Barcelona player Eric Garcia with the club envisioning a move for the defender in January, with his contract termainating this summer he is an ideal target for the European Champions.
With Achraf Hakimi set to be sidelined for an extended period, Garcia is the perfect alternative. The Spaniard is a very versatile player, able to player at centre-back, right-back and as a defensive midfielder. With Luis Enrique not interested to bring a right-back just to seat on the bench as Hakimi's backup, Garcia will also be able to secure minutes at multiple positions of his sytem with great efficiency. Furthermore, Hakimi who is now recovering from his injury will not return to the team before the end of January as he will most likely feature for Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) if he manages to recover in time.
Reportedly, the Parisians were ligning up a move for this summer but with the many injuries hitting the squad at the moment, bringing Garcia to the club earlier in January makes perfect sense. Now, the club will have to pay a transfer fee to Barcelona who might not want to part ways with him so soon, making it harder to guarantee his arrival.
