The French Champions have had a good week thus far. Last week, on Wednesday night, they dispatched Chelsea 5-2 at the Parc des Princes. The game was pretty close until Khvicha made it 4-2 with four minutes left of the match. Shortly afterwards, he put the icing on the cake, scoring PSG's fifth goal in the fourth minute of added time. Remarkably, none of the English teams had won the first leg of their Champions League tie. PSG had the luxury of not playing on the weekend as they don't have a league fixture.
Here at PSG Post, we discuss why Les Parisiens must guard against complacency in the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Why Paris must remain focus against Chelsea in the second-leg?
Chelsea can be a good team and have offensive weapons
The biggest problem with Chelsea has been their lack of consistency. Liam Rosenior's side is a mix of hot and cold. In the Premier League, they recently dispatched Aston Villa 4-1 at Villa Park, and in January, they took points off Manchester City at the Etihad. They have also drawn at home against Burnley (1-1) and Leeds United (2-2). If the Blues turn up on the day and PSG already think they are through, then the game could easily go to extra time. The West London side has undoubtedly the offensive firepower in the shape of Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer to score three goals.
Comebacks have happened several times in the Champions League
The history Champions League has been full of unexpected comebacks. In the 2005 final, Liverpool were 3-0 down against AC Milan at half-time before turning the game around in the second half and winning the match on penalties. The biggest example of them all is Barcelona's incredible comeback against PSG in the 2016-17 season. The Spanish giants lost the first leg 4-0 at the Parc des Princes before the 6-1 thumping at the Camp Nou in the second leg. These comebacks show that the French champions should not assume they are already through heading into the second leg.
PSG can be got at this season
Luis Enrique's side has shown they are beatable this season. Monaco did the double over them in the league, while Rennes beat them 3-1 at home last month. These results have meant they are only a point ahead of first-placed Lens at the top of the Ligue 1 summit. They need to extend the gap between themselves and Pierre Sage's side ahead of the game in April, as if they lose, Lens will overtake them in the table with six games left of the season.
