Les Parisiens will have the toughest test of the season when they play in the Champions League final against Arsenal this weekend. Mikel Arteta's side has been the best in Europe. They won eight games in the league phase before going through the knockout rounds unbeaten against Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting Lisbon, and Atletico Madrid. Not dropping any points in the league phase is remarkable, considering that they faced Inter Milan (away), Atletico Madrid (home), and Bayern Munich (home).

Here at PSG Post, we discuss why the European champions have more to lose between the two sides.

Arsenal were not expected to be in the final

Before the season started, few people would have expected Arsenal to reach the Champions League final, given their lack of European pedigree. This is only the second time they have been to the Champions League final, and they have never won it before. The last time they reached the final, they lost 2-1 to Barcelona in 2006. Since they weren't expected to be here, they will perform in the final as a team that has nothing to lose. Winning the Premier League nine days ago would have eased the pressure on the team, as that is the trophy they have wanted the most after finishing second three times in a row.

PSG are slight favourites

Luis Enrique's side will come into this encounter as slight favourites as they are defending European champions and had a harder route to the final. Les Parisiens also have the firepower to dispatch the Premier League side if they can be clinical on the day. The French champions struggled in the league phase of the tournament before performing at a very high level in the knockout rounds to progress against the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich. Being slight underdogs will take some pressure off the North London side as they will have less to lose.

Regardless of the result, Arsenal would still have had a good season

The Gunners wanted the Premier League more than the European trophy as they hadn't gotten over the line in the last three seasons. Winning the Champions League would be such a big achievement for Arsenal that it would lead to Arteta getting a statue. Some fans would argue that winning the league is your bread and butter, whilst in the Champions League, you can be the best team and get knocked out if one game doesn't go your way.
