Why PSG can get the better of Liverpool in the Champions League?

After the international break, the French champions have an extremely difficult Champions League clash against Arne Slot's Liverpool, which is already subjected to controversy following PSG's league game postponement against Lens. Liverpool tends to perform very well in Europe regardless of how they are doing in the league. There was nothing between these two sides in last season's tie, which went to penalties. Les Parisiens were quite dominant in the second-leg at Anfield, which they won 0-1 and deserved to progress over the two legs. The games will be different this year as the French champions don't have a goalkeeper like Gianluigi Donnarumma, who can bail them out.

Here at PSG Post, we discuss why Les Parisiens should feel confident in progressing to the semi-final of the Champions League.

Why PSG are clear favourite over Liverpool in the Champions League?

Liverpool have not had a great season

The Reds have been a shadow of their former selves this season. They are currently 21 points away from league leaders Arsenal, which is extremely concerning considering the gap between these two last season. The Merseyside club got knocked out of the League Cup by Crystal Palace in October. Their best chance of winning silverware this season is the FA Cup, but that is still a tall order considering they have to play Man City at the Etihad in the next round. If they knock out Pep Guardiola's side, they could face Chelsea or Arsenal in the semi-final

They have the attack to cause Liverpool problems

Luis Enrique's side boasts the attacking prowess that can wreak havoc on Liverpool's defence. Arne Slot's Reds are not the best side defensively. They have conceded 42 goals in the league, which is seven more then Merseyside rivals Everton, who are eighth. The only issue is whether players like Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola can stay fit. Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are not the best fullbacks defensively, and it remains to be seen whether Conor Bradley will start at right back. To make matters worse, Virgil Van Dijk's level has dropped slightly this season.

Les Parisiens knocked them out last campaign

PSG were dominant in spells when they played Slot's side last season. They will have confidence that they could do it again, as this Liverpool side is not as good this season. The Reds lack the threat of Trent Alexander-Arnold's crosses and set-pieces, as well as the directness of Luis Diaz. Alexander Isak has taken some time to adjust to playing for Liverpool, despite being Premier League-proven, and Hugo Ekitike is not yet the finished article. Bradley is a capable right back, but dealing with Khvicha would be an extremely tall order.
