2025 is coming to an abrupt end. It will be memorable for PSG fans for what the club has achieved on the pitch. The club's achievements should not be taken for granted, as they did not start well in the Champions League last season. It is rather unfortunate that they ran out of steam against Chelsea in the Club World Cup final, as they could have won every trophy possible this year. Nonetheless, what they accomplished was no mean feat, as only a handful of clubs have won a treble. Here at PSG Post, we discuss why 2025 is the most memorable in the club's history thus far.

Why 2025 was historic for PSG?

They had won the treble

Les Parisiens won the treble this year (Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and Champions League). The Champions League was the trophy they wanted the most out of the three since the Qatari takeover in 2011, as they have bought world-class players to give themselves the best chances of winning it. They got to the final in 2021 against Bayern Munich, where they lost 1-0 courtesy of a Kingsley Coman header. Luis Enrique's side followed up the treble by also winning the UEFA Super Cup final against Spurs and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final against Flamengo.

They did not sign any Galacticos's

PSG's fans did not expect much from last season, as they had sold Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid in the summer 2024 window without an adequate replacement. In the transfer windows before Mbappe's departure, they had gotten rid of Lionel Messi and Neymar. This indicates that they wanted to move away from the Galactico policy of signing superstars. Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe did not like tracking back, which left PSG's defense exposed. To make matters worse, the trio played as individuals.

The awards that the players were picking up

Ousmane Dembele, Achraf Hakimi, and Vitinha had their best season of their career. Dembele had scored 21 goals and registered seven assists in 29 appearances, which led to him winning the Ballon d'Or ahead of Lamine Yamal. Dembele's issue is that he can't stay fit.

This season, he has only played eight Ligue 1 games, scoring two goals and notching two assists. PSG players performed so well that five players (Gianluigi Donnarumma, Nuno Mendes, Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, and Ousmane Dembele) were named in the FIFPro World 11. Luis Enrique was awarded the best FIFA Men's coach, which is remarkable when you consider how much he struggled with the Spanish national team.
