PSG will come up against Liverpool following the conclusion of the Champions League draw on Friday 21st February. This tie will garner interest because both sides have the firepower that can cause any defence in Europe problems. It will also be eagerly anticipated as it will be intriguing to see whether Luis Enrique's side have learnt lessons from previous matchups against tough opposition in the Champions League.
They utterly dispatched fellow French opposition Stade Brest 10-0 on aggregate in the Champions League playoff round.
Here at PSG Post, we will discuss the battles that will be vital in deciding who will advance to the quarter finals against either Club Brugge or Aston Villa.
Mohammed Salah and Cody Gakpo vs PSG's fullbacks
Egyptian International Salah will have a huge say on whether PSG will advance in the competition or not. If he doesn't have a below par performance alongside Gakpo then it will be difficult for Les Parisiens' defence to withstand the Red's onslaught.
Lucas Hernandez and Achraf Hakimi will be tasked with dealing with Liverpool's wingers. Despite having a great season thus far Hakimi will need to have the best games of his career to deal with whoever is on his side of the pitch. Luis Enrique may opt to play Lucas Hernandez as he is better defensively than Nuno Mendes who is more known for what he can do going forward.
Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola vs Liverpool's fullback's
Dembele and Barcola are having the best season of their careers thus far. Both will need to be at their best in the Liverpool tie despite Trent and Andy Robertson not being the best fullback's defensively. Trent and Robertson will need Ibrahima Konate and Virgil Van Dijk to help them out and tuck in whenever Dembele or Barcola drift past one of them. Arne Slot may be tempted to sub on Connor Bradley at right back if Trent is struggling against one of them.
The midfield battle
The midfield is where games are won and lost. The midfielders that create more chances will go a long way to determining who will win the tie. Liverpool may create more chances over the two legs as they have a player who can play the number 10 position in the shape of Dominik Szoboszlai.
Alexis Macalister and Ryan Gravenberch compliment each other very well with both players getting the best out of the other. It will be hard for the inexperienced Joao Neves and Warren Zaire Emery to stamp their authority on the game as they haven't played in occasions like this often enough.
