PSG played the biggest game of the season last night against Arsenal at the Parc Des Princes. The game was big for both sides as it was Arsenal's only chance of winning silverware this season and the French champions need this trophy under the Qatari ownership.
PSG went 2-0 up courtesy of goals from Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi before Bukayo Saka pulled one back with 15 minutes to go. Luis Enrique's side held their nerve in the last 15 minutes to book a place in the Champions League final.
At PSG Post, we discuss three things we learned as the French champions edge closer to an elusive first Champions League trophy.
Gianluigi Donnarumma made crucial saves
Donnarumma made important saves to ensure Arsenal didn't get back into the tie. In the 7th minute, he saved Odegaard's shot outside the box, and in the second half, he tipped over Bukayo Saka's curling shot. If he did not make those saves, then the Gunners would have found a way back into the tie, especially considering they started strong.
His saves are going to be more crucial than ever in the UEFA Champions League final as Inter Milan will have several chances on the break. He could also be decisive in a penalty shootout, as he proved against Liverpool in the last 16 of the tournament.
Arsenal had several chances
Mikel Arteta's side had numerous chances to get back into the tie. In just the 2nd minute, Declan Rice headed wide from Jurrien Timber's cross. Moments later, Martinelli had a chance from close range, which he missed. In the second half, Saka missed an open goal after Donnarumma missed Calafiori's cross, and in added time, Merino headed wide from Ben White's cross. The chances Arsenal had when PSG were 2-0 up and 2-1 up show that they can get too comfortable and let other teams back into games unnecessarily. The French champions can't afford to give up chances against Inter Milan, as Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram can punish them.
PSG need to be more clinical
Les Parisiens had several chances in the game yesterday. In the 16th minute, Khvicha hit the post with a curling shot outside the box. Moments later, Desire Doue had a tame shot at David Raya when he was through on goal. Shortly after Fabian Ruiz's goal, Bradley Barcola couldn't finish under pressure from Declan Rice when 1 on 1 with the keeper. In the second half, Doue and Ousmane Dembele had chances. The French champions will need to be more clinical in the final, as Inter Milan have attackers who can punish them.
