PSG won the most important game of the season on Tuesday when they defeated fellow Ligue 1 opposition Stade Brestois 0-3 away from home in the Champions League. Luis Enrique's side were well worth the win on Tuesday night and could have won by more had they been more clinical.
Les Parisiens have now won three times against Eric Roy's side which spells doom ahead of the second leg in Parc des Princes next week as they have the pyschological edge over Brest. Here at PSG Post we discuss what caught our attention as the French champions have one foot in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Ousmane Dembele is becoming consistent
Dembele is having the best season of his career. It is rather remarkable that it has taken him until 27 for him to hit his peak. On Tuesday he kept his great form up with a brilliant performance. In the first half he finished off a counter attacking move involving Joao Neves and Achraf Hakimi. Prior to his first goal he should have scored when he volleyed over the bar in the six yard box. The French international's performance only improved in the second half. He was involved in Doue's offside goal, scored his second after latching onto Barcola's deflected pass and could have scored a hattrick had his shot not been deflected.
Eric Roy's side had a limited number of big chances. They couldn't carve open the French champions defence despite having the same amount of shots on goal as them. PSG's defence did well to limit the amount of clear cut chances that Brest had as they would have grew in confidence.
Aside from an underwhelming free-kick from Kenny Lala which went straight into Gianluigi Donnarumma's hands the biggest chance they had was Adallah Sima's header which hit the post just after the half hour mark. They had half a chance when Mathias Pereira Lage's hopeful cross was tipped over by Donnarumma.
PSG's midfield controlled the game
Les Parisiens' midfield dominated ball possession on a pitch that was not worthy of Champions League football. Vitinha who ended up Man of the Match honours, was a crucial reason behind this as he put in a great performance. At numerous occasions, he kept hold of the ball whilst creating chances with his through balls. He also showed the defensive side to his game each time he recovered possession.
