PSG are gearing up for the biggest game of their season when they host Newcastle United in matchday eight of the Champions League group phase tomorrow night. Despite winning the tournament last campaign, the Champions League remains important for the French champions this year, as they are out of the Coupe de France and are only two points ahead of Lens in the Ligue 1 table.

They leapfrogged Lens last matchday after they suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Marseille. Luis Enrique's side put pressure on Lens the day before by winning 0-1 away at Auxerre, courtesy of a goal from Bradley Barcola. In the Champions League, Les Parisiens have room for improvement.

In the last matchday, they had lost 2-1 to a Sporting side that doesn't possess their quality. This has left them sixth in the table with 13 points. Luis Enrique will be concerned that eight teams (PSG, Newcastle, Chelsea, Barcelona, Sporting, Man City, Atletico Madrid, and Atlanta) are level on points with them, as they know that there is no room for error.

If they don't finish in a top-eight position, then they will have to play two extra games in the playoffs. Despite an underwhelming domestic campaign thus far, PSG should not take Newcastle for granted, as they are level on points with them in the Champions League table.
