PSG vs Bayern Munich: Are the European Champions favourite of the tie?

Even with their European Champions status, are PSG the underdogs of their tie against Bayern Munich?

After complicated League Phase, PSG have managed to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, following two very dominant displays in the knockout stage against Chelsea in the Round of 16 and more recently Liverpool in the quarter-finals. PSG have reached the semi-finals of the competition and will face Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich.

Both teams have already faced each other in the League Phase of the competition, with Munich securing a 2-1 away victory at the Parc des Princes. Even though, Ousmane Dembélé was injured and missed the clash, Vincent Kompany's team have dominated this game and proved that they were likely the best team in Europe at the time.

On the other hand, Harry Kane and his teammates have just come out victorious of the most thrilling quarter-final tie against Real Madrid and looked stronger than ever ahead of their highly anticipated clash against Luis Enrique and his team.

Are PSG the underdogs of their tie against Bayern Munich?

Following their hard-fought victory against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Joshua Kimmich said to 90min: "The two best teams in Europe are going to face each other. We’ve played many high-level matches against Paris in recent years. I can’t wait for it."

Both teams will face each other on April 28 and May 6 and will deliver a clash between the two most dominant sides of the competition. Two teams that looked almost unbeatable while playing a beautiful brand of football under two of the best coaches this season.

While Paris Saint-Germain should be favourite of this tie due to their status as title holders, it seems that Vincent Kompany and his team are the one edging out due to their success over Paris earlier this season.

The European Champions have struggled all season to get back to their best due to several injuries to key players, such as Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Achraf Hakimi and Fabian Ruiz who could make his return in time for the semi-final tie. However, they looked almost as strong as last year following the return to form of their best players.

Vincent Kompany, nonetheless has build a side that could rival PSG in every positions, including their midfield who dominated Europe in the last Champions League campaign. Offensively, Munich is one of the most dangerous teams, led by the unstoppable Harry Kane who is remarkably supported by Michael Olise and former Liverpool star Luis Diaz.

Overall, there is almost no doubt that the team coming out of this tie will lift the Champions League trophy in Budapest on May 30 and the team led by Vincent Kompany has exactly what it takes to take down the European Champions and sink their hope of a back-to-back.
