On May 30, Arsenal and PSG are set to clash in the Champions League final at the Puskas Arena as Paris aim for their second consecutive European title while the Gunners hope to conquer Europe for the first time ever.
This battle will not only be between the best two teams of the continent, but also between their two coaches, leaving fans wondering about who will win the tactical battle and possibly the game.
Why Luis Enrique has already won the tactical battle against Mikel Arteta?
1- Luis Enrique is far more experienced
After years of repetitive heartbreaks in their chase of their first Champions League title, Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi made the most important decision in the history of the club and appointed Luis Enrique as the new PSG coach. It completely changed the trajectory of the club as they are now just one game away from winning a second consecutive Champions League.
It could be his third Champions League title after the one won last season and the victory with Barcelona in 2015. He has had numerous experiences with many clubs all over Europe and has gained an incredible amount of knowledge as a player a coach.
Moreover, he has been able to handle all the different challenges thrown at him in the last two seasons as many coaches tried to derailed his tactics, but none managed to beat him. The closest was Vincent Kompany but ultimately, the Spaniard and his team prevailed.
2- More diversity in their playstyle
Thanks to their coach, the European Champions also have a wide range of playstyles. The most used one is obviously based on ball control, but the team is able to play in transition with the pace of their front three or hold a low block and count on their defensive solidity. The Parisians have done it against Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semi-final.
What makes Luis Enrique and this team so dangerous is also the fact that they can switch seamlessly between all their different styles of play throughout a game which makes them completely unpredictable.
On the other end, Mikel Arteta's Arsenal relies heavily on set pieces, which is one of their biggest strengths. This characteristic makes them often easy to stop on open play when in possession of the ball. Even though, Luis Enrique deemed the Gunners " the best team without the ball".
3 - Luis Enrique has an almost perfect record in finals
The Spaniard has one of the most impressive records in finals, having won 11 of the 12 club finals he managed. He lifted trophies with Barcelona and PSG and his only loss came against Chelsea last summer in the FIFA Club World Cup. Luis Enrique has proved many times that he knows how to handle this level of pressure.
