According to BILD, Paris Saint-Germain is set to sell Dutch international Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for a reported price of €80 million. The Dutchman who signed for the French champions in 2019 from Barcelona's La Masia as a free agent has been loaned out to the German side for the last 18 months.
Furthermore, the deal struck between Leipzig and Les Parisiens is reportedly of €50 million to which could be added €31 million due to performance related add-ons. This deal also includes a percentage revenue on a future transfer. This transfer will also become Leipzig's transfer record overtaking the €40 million move of Lois Openda from RC Lens in 2023.
The club initially sold Simons to PSV in 2022 but activated his buy-back clause in 2023 for a fee of just €6 million, after the Dutchman ended the 2022-23 Eredivisie campaign as the top scorer. The player who has been on loan for the last 18-months had only played 11 games for the club and was not part of Luis Enrique's plan in the foreseeable future. Simons is reportedly set to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract (until 2027) with the German side after becoming one of their best players since his move to the RedBull-owned club.
With all the talents the 21-year-old displayed throughout his loans to PSV and Leipzig, there is no doubt that the Dutch midfielder will be in-demand when comes the summer transfer window, with many Premier League clubs supposedly interested in signing him.
This move will not only allow Paris to make an incredible profit from a player a joined the club for free but also to open an extra spot to loan a player, per FIFA's rules requires a club to only have six players maximum loaned out per clubs. This situation pushed the French giants to look for solutions to offload players as the January moves for Kolo Muani and Milan Skriniar were in jeopardy.
With Xavi Simons sold, Paris Saint-Germain will be able to loan Milan Skriniar to Fenerbahce for the rest of the season. The former Inter Milan player who was a regular starter last year fell out of favour with Luis Enrique and was looking for an exit that would give him regular minutes on the pitch. The 29-year-old's contract with PSG is set to expire in 2028 and a permanent transfer is expected to be found in the summer for the Slovakia international.
