According to Fabrizio Romano, PSG Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to join Premier League side Manchester City pending his upcoming medical tests. The deal between both clubs has been sealed for weeks awaiting the departure of Brazil international goalkeeper Éderson to Fenerbahçe to be completed.

The 26-year-old will reportedly undergo his medical in Italy before joining his new team following the international break. Both clubs agreed on a fee of € 30/35 million for the former AC Milan shot-stopper.

Overall, the Italian goalkeeper made 161 appearances for the club and played a pivotal role as PSG went on to lift the first Champions League trophy of its history after a historical treble winning campaign.

Why parting ways with Donnarumma is a smart move from PSG?

Parting ways with Gianluigi Donnarumma following the incredible 2024-2025 season he had, which helped the club to its best season ever could be seen as a bold move for PSG and Luis Enrique. However, it was certainly the best moment to let go of the former AC Milan star. Although, his last campaign with the club was historical, paved with memorable moments that cemented his legacy at the club as the best goalkeeper in the history of the club, Donnarumma's first three seasons at the club were far from being a complete success.

Unfortunately, these three years were filled with doubts following numerous costly mistakes on the European stage, while his ability to be reliable with the ball quickly became the focal point of interrogation from fans and observers alike, despite his many prowess on line.

Nonetheless, his 2024-2025 campaign casted away most of this doubts as he showcased great improvements on the ball while seemingly becoming unbeatable on his line when PSG needed him the most throughout the Knockout stage of the Champions League. But coming towards the end of his contract and being unable to reach an agreement with the club over an extension, his tenure at the club took an abrupt turn when the club decided to sign French international goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

A goalkeeper who perfectly fits Luis Enrique's brand of football, way more than Gianluigi Donnarumma despite his recent progress on the ball. Ultimately, it was the best moment to part ways with the Italian, at the peak of his career, nonetheless, but for a French goalkeeper who possesses a way higher ceiling.
