After last week's successful week in the Champions League, PSG made headlines again as they dominated the 2025 UNFP awards ceremony.
The Trophées UNFP du football are several awards annually given by the Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionnels to players playing in France's Ligue 1, Ligue 2, and Division 1 Féminine, as well as to managers and referees.
The award is important as it is a recognition of excellence since the players are acknowledged for their performances, and it showcases the talent in French football domestically and internationally. Here at PSG Post, we discussed the winners from the different awards last night.
Ousmane Dembele clinches UNFP player of the year award
Dembele won the player of the year award. To say that he deserved it would be an understatement. When Kylian Mbappe departed for Real Madrid in the summer, there were doubts about whether anyone could step up in his absence, as they didn't find a replacement for him. Ousmane Dembele has proved the doubters wrong as he scored 21 goals and registered 8 assists in 28 league games. The Frenchman also played a crucial role in PSG's Champions League campaign. In 14 games, he has scored 8 goals and notched 4 assists. The most important goal that he's scored came in the first leg of the semi-final against Arsenal at the Emirates.
Luis Enrique wins the Manager of the Year award
PSG's coach won the manager of the year award. This is not surprising as his team was close to going unbeaten and is in a domestic cup final. It is remarkable what they have achieved in Europe without their talisman from last season. They didn't start their Champions League campaign as well as they had suffered defeats to the likes of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Atletico Madrid in the league phase. It remains to be seen whether players like Ousmane Dembele can perform like this next season, as Bradley Barcola's form dropped off in the second half of the season.
Nine PSG players make the team of the year
Nine PSG players: Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Willian Pacho, Joao Neves, Vitinha, Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola, and Desire Doue, were included in the team of the year. The two non-PSG players in the starting 11 are Lucas Chevalier (Lille) and Rayan Cherki (Lyon). Chevalier and Cherki deserved their place in the starting eleven. Chevalier kept 11 clean sheets for a Lille team that faces several shots a game, while Cherki has scored eight goals and got 10 assists in 29 league games for Lyon.
