Paris are set to battle Marseille, their biggest rival in Le Classique for the Trophée des Champions which is taking place in Kuwait. Luis Enrique and his team will look to take revenge on their opponent following their 1-0 loss in the first Classique of the season while hoping to lift the first trophy of the year.

Over the weekend, PSG secured a 2-1 win over Paris FC in the derby, closing the gap to just one point behind RC Lens in the Ligue 1 table. Meanwhile, 9-men Marseille fell 2-0 at home against relegation-threatened Nantes and will look to bounce back.

For this game, Luis Enrique aligned what appears tobe his strongest starting XI, barring Achraf Hakimi who is currently representing Morocco at the AFCON. Warren Zaire-Emery will therefore be positioned as right-back, a position where he delivered several top-level performances.

Paris Saint-Germain's starting XI: Chevalier; Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes, Warren Zaire-Emery; Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, Joao Neves; Doué, Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé.

Marseille's starting XI: Rulli; Pavard, Balerdi, Medina; Weah, Kondogbia, Hojberg, Emerson; Greenwood, Paixao, Gouiri.

PSG claim the Trophée des Champions in dramatic fashion

Inside the first six minute, Marseille's captain came very close to open the score with a thunderous header following a corner but Lucas Chevalier delivered a terrific save on his line to deny him the opener and keep his side level.

Despite having the possession of the ball, Marseille's high press made it difficult for the Parisians to go forward in the first 10 minutes. Nonetheless, Nuno Mendes found himself close to score, but his header went wide of Rulli's right post.

Shortly, Ousmane Dembélé gave the lead to his team as Marseille gave the ball away in front of their box. The 2025 Ballon d'Or made no mistakes and calmly put the ball in the back of the net (13').

Mendes came close to add to Paris' lead but was denied by a good stop from Rulli (19'). In the following 20 minutes, Marseille kept knocking on the door, pushing for the leveller, mainly through several corners but Paris' defence managed these difficult situations perfectly. Lucas Chevalier was very busy in the first 40 minutes and made several crucial saves to keep his team in the lead at halftime.

After the break, Marseille kept their offensive going, but systematically failed to beat Lucas Chevalier who seemed simply unbeatable. However, he was finally beaten from the spot by Mason Greenwood. The France international fouled the Englishman after a through ball (76').

In the dying embers of the game, Marseille turned the game around as Pacho put deflected the ball into his own net, leaving Chevalier powerless (88'). In the final seconds of the clash, super-sub Gonçalo Ramos levelled the game sending us to a dramatic penalty shootout (90'+5).

In the shootout, Chevalier delivered another great performance with two saves, later Désiré Doué scored the last penalty to claim the first trophy of the year.

Up next, PSG will once again faced Paris FC in a derby at the Parc des Princes in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France.
