Will PSG try to get both Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan?
PSG is targeting Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva for a potential transfer to pursue righter after the Champions League final scheduled for Saturday, June 10 between Man City and Inter Milan in Turkiye is over.
Silva's versatility and game intelligence make him an attractive option for the club, reports Le Parisien. While not on par with the unique talent of the departing Lionel Messi, Silva's ability to understand and read the game sets him apart.
At 29 years old, he is a rare talent appreciated by coaches for his "versatility, vision, and positional awareness," according to the information obtained by Le Parisien.
Luis Campos, PSG's sporting director, previously worked with Silva at Monaco and believes he would "bring balance to PSG's squad." The Portugal international adaptability "allows him to fill various midfield roles and contribute as a creator, playmaker, and a hybrid no. 9."
The sources feeding information to the French newspaper said that PSG see Silva as "a potential replacement for Angel Di Maria on the right side." Di Maria spent this season at Juventus after leaving PSG last summer.
Silva's "team-oriented approach to the game" further enhances his appeal, says Le Parisien. Vadim Vasilyev, former general manager of Monaco, remembers Silva's impressive debut and has made public comments highlighting his "dedication to teamwork and quick integration with the group."
Negotiations with Manchester City, Silva's current club, may be challenging due to the relationship between the owners of PSG and Man City, which is not on the best terms more because of political issues rather than anything else.
Silva's market value is estimated at €80m, a figure that could rise if (when) Man City wins the Champions League final. However, PSG has some advantages in their pursuit of Silva. After six seasons in Manchester, Silva is open to a new challenge and would welcome the opportunity to work with Luis Campos again. Winning the Champions League could also make the transfer easier, as Silva would have already won every trophy at Man City.
Additionally, Silva is represented by Jorge Mendes, a Portuguese agent with connections to PSG's football director and current representative of multiple players part of the Parisian squad, which could also facilitate potential negotiations between both clubs.
Despite potential obstacles, PSG remains committed to acquiring Silva, as well as fellow Cityzen Ilkay Gundogan as we reported yesterday. The club believes their talent would greatly benefit the team and strengthen the PSG midfielder ahead of the 2023/24 season, where they would feature along with already-signed Manuel Ugarte.
