Why the transfer window was successful for PSG
By Edward Otto
PSG was the talking point of last summer window as they got rid of their talisman Mbappe. The French champions did not sign a like-for-like replacement for the French captain.
Despite not finding someone who can fill Mbappe's shoes they have got off to a good start this league campaign winning their first three league games. Here at PSG Post, we elaborate on why this summer window should be seen as steady despite not signing a world-class attacker.
They have removed deadwood
PSG removed players who are surplus to requirements in the recent transfer window. Hugo Etikitike, Danilo Pereira, Carlos Soler, Nordi Mukiele, and Juan Bernat were sold for different reasons.
Players such as Layvin Kurzawa, Sergio Rico, and Keylor Navas ran down their contracts. This shows that they were ruthless in the summer window which is necessary as they needed a squad overhaul after an underwhelming Champions League.
The attackers are flourishing more then before
Not signing a ready-made replacement for Mbappe has enabled all of the attackers to flourish to a greater extent the they had done previously. In the small sample of games, Randal Kolo Muani scored two goals and Bradley Barcola has found the net on three occasions. This could be a big indicator that Luis Enrique's side plays more freely without having to rely somewhat on the French captain.
The French champions strengthened other areas
PSG has signed a center-back in the shape of Willian Pacho, a winger in Desire Doue, and a center midfielder in Joao Neves.
Neves is undoubtedly the most important signing of them all since the club sold Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United. All three players have limitless potential given their age which makes their signatures all the more worthwhile.
