PSG won their opening Champions League game 1-0 against a Girona side who were fresh off a 1-4 drubbing versus FC Barcelona in the Catalan derby.

The French champions deserved to win on the night but need to put games to bed earlier in future European games or it could seriously come back to haunt them. Ousmane Dembele was the main culprit as most of the missed opportunities fell his way.

Here at PSG Post we discuss the reasons why they need to be more clinical, especially in this season's edition. Let's dive in.

Why PSG must be more ruthless in the Champions League

Goal difference could prove crucial

In the opening round of Champions League fixtures, Bayern Munich completely dismantled Dinamo Zagreb 9-2. Whilst this win only gives them three points it significantly boosts their goal difference. This is a complete contrast to PSG who stumbled across the line in their 1-0 win over Girona.

Luis Enrique's side needs to boost goal difference as that could easily be the difference between them finishing eighth and ninth. Where they end up in the table is crucial as if the French champions finish below eighth they will have to play an extra two games to get through to the next round.

Better's sides will punish them later in the competition

Les Parisiens still have to play against tougher opponents in this edition of the tournament. Some of their upcoming fixtures include Arsenal (away), Atletico Madrid (home), Bayern Munich (away) and Manchester City (away).

Not taking their chances against these levels of opponents will prove to be devastating as these sides will not be as forgiving. This could wreak havoc for their final league position as they need as many points on the board as possible to qualify as one of the best eight teams.
