PSG dent Lyon's chances of finishing in a European position after a 4-1 win against the French giants. This win was significant for two reasons which we will delve into.

1. Phycological blow to Lyon ahead of the Coupe de France final

Luis Enrique's side has one final meeting left this season against Lyon in the Coupe de France final at the end of May (May 25th). PSG have beaten arch rivals Lyon twice this season 4-1 on both occasions.

Being unable to beat Les Parisens this campaign will give Lyon the impression that they have no chance in the final. This is far from ideal for them as they will lose the game at the tunnel if they have no belief.

Kylian Mbappe was an unused sub in the second clash this season in which PSG ran away 4-1 victors at home. Lyon's manager will be concerned that without Mbappe they still found a way to comprehensively beat his side.

2. They are one step closer to the Ligue 1 title

After the win yesterday against Lyon PSG now need to win two more games to wrap up the league title. This is crucial because many PSG players will be called up for their national team to play in the Euros or Copa America this summer.

It is also quite significant because they will be able to rest players before they play both ties against Borussia Dortmund. If they had not wrapped up the title early and it took to the last game of the season it would be difficult to find a time to rest them.
