PSG visit Arsenal this Tuesday for MD2 of the Champions League, and we had the opportunity to discuss it with an expert on the Gunners.

Paris Saint-Germain resumes European activity this Tuesday with their visit to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium for MD2 of the UEFA Champions League and their new league phase.

The Parisians come off a 3-1 victory against Rennes at the Parc des Princes, while Arsenal recently came back to beat Leicester City 4-2 in the Premier League.

On the eve of the match, we had the opportunity to speak with James Cormack, Site Expert of Pain in the Arsenal, a website dedicated entirely to covering the current affairs of the Gunners. Cormack kindly agreed to answer our questions ahead of this exciting UCL match. Let’s get to it.

From an outside perspective, there’s a feeling that the team is heavily relying on their Spanish goalkeeper, David Raya, to stay at the top of the Premier League. Do you agree with this? And if so, why do you think this is happening?

"I think there’s some truth in that. Raya’s been outstanding, and he has bailed them out in a couple of games. Still, I think the past two games against top opposition have shown that Arsenal are still excellent defensively. Mitigating circumstances haven’t allowed the attack to click just yet."

Saka is in top form right now. Will he be able to maintain this level throughout the long season?

"That’s the key! Despite what Robert Pires says, Saka is remarkably consistent without being dominant. He seemingly had a say in every goal, and his set-piece delivery is superb. We hope Arteta offers him some rest so he doesn’t burn out down the stretch - as has been the case in recent years."

It was frustrating that City equalised at home in the 90’+8. How much does that lost win in the final minutes affect the team’s morale?

"Winning at the Etihad would’ve been massive in the title race, but I think the team will still be immensely proud of their effort. Overall, they’ll take great confidence from the game despite the late equaliser."

PSG have been going through several changes in the team’s structure and philosophy since last year. How do you perceive Paris Saint-Germain from the outside? Do you see them as a weakened team, or do you still consider them a tough opponent?

"While Mbappe has long been the main man without ever being a complete individual, I did think his exit would perhaps benefit Enrique - reduced expectations. He’s a great coach, and this time should eventually click, but there must be a few concerns over recent performances.

You’re relying heavily on Barcola and Dembele - two incredibly exciting but inconsistent wife players - to fill Mbappe’s void. I also fear that the midfield is, while brilliant, too lightweight to enjoy a deep UCL run. That’s where Arsenal could have success on Tuesday."

The big surprise ahead of the match is that Ousmane Dembele has not been included in Luis Enrique's squad for this clash. The Spanish manager confirmed in a press conference that it is a disciplinary matter.
