During the summer transfer window of 2024, PSG has targeted Nico Williams to strengthen its attacking options. However, the Parisian club may need to abandon its pursuit of the Spanish international.

With the left-wing seemingly reserved for Bradley Barcola following Kylian Mbappe's departure, it might not be as straightforward for the former Lyonnais. Luis Enrique and his management team are looking to bolster their wing positions, and players like Rafael Leao, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Jadon Sancho, and Nico Williams have been on their radar.

However, AC Milan and Napoli have been too demanding for their players, negotiations for Jadon Sancho have not progressed significantly, and PSG might have to let go of their interest in the recent Euro 2024 winner, according to British sources from The Athletic.

The Athletic reports that Nico Williams is inclined to spend another season with his current club, Athletic Bilbao. Although no official decision has been announced, anonymous sources from Barcelona, another potential suitor, have indicated that the chances of signing Williams have diminished in recent days.

Unless there is a last-minute change, the 22-year-old winger is expected to fulfill another season of his new contract signed in December, which ties him to Athletic Bilbao until 2027. Additionally, Athletic Bilbao might consider offering him a new contract with more favorable terms.

Club president Jon Uriarte stated regarding Williams' future: “Athletic Club is financially, socially, and sportingly capable of retaining players of the caliber mentioned, including Nico Williams.” This development leaves PSG with one less option for their summer transfer plans, and they will need to explore other alternatives if they wish to enhance their offensive capabilities, especially on the wings.
