On Friday night, the French national team faced off against Spain in the Olympic final. Despite taking an early lead, France ultimately fell to a strong Spanish side, led by PSG goalkeeper Arnau Tenas.
Forty years after their last Olympic triumph, the French team was eager to claim gold at the Paris Olympic Games. Early in the match, Thierry Henry's squad managed to break the deadlock, with Enzo Millot seizing an opportunity on the right side of Spain's defense.
His shot, aided by a rare mistake from Tenas, found the back of the net (1-0, 11th minute). However, Spain responded swiftly, scoring three goals in just ten minutes. Fermin Lopez netted twice (18th, 25th minute), followed by a stunning free-kick from Benea that curled into the top corner of the French goal (3-1, 28th minute).

After this rapid turnaround, Spain continued to dominate, though they couldn't extend their lead further. Tenas redeemed himself with a crucial save just before halftime, denying Mateta’s close-range header (45+2 minutes).
Trailing by two goals, France returned with renewed determination in the second half. Koné’s header struck the crossbar (57th minute), and the French side created numerous chances, though they struggled to beat Tenas. The PSG keeper pulled off another excellent save, diving to stop a powerful shot from Koné (72nd minute).
As the match entered its final stages, France ramped up the pressure. Michael Olise sent in a dangerous free-kick, which Akliouche barely touched to redirect past Tenas (3-2, 79th minute). The French team then managed a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time.
After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Arnaud Kalimuendo in the box. Mateta coolly slotted the ball past Tenas, leveling the score at 3-3 (93rd minute). In this thrilling encounter, Spain nearly snatched victory at the death but was denied by the crossbar, sending the match into extra time.
