PSG will host Stade Rennais at home this Friday. The French champions will want to bounce back after drawing their last league game away to Stade de Reims.

Whilst the result is not ideal because of how well the likes of AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille have started the season it is not the end of the world as we are only on matchday four.

Luis Enrique may have one eye on the UEFA Champions League fixture against Arsenal next Tuesday as it is unarguably the bigger game. Les Parisens have an extremely tough run of fixtures in Europe which they have to overcome in order to progress to the next phase of this edition of the tournament.

Here at PSG Post, we discuss why they can afford to rest players ahead of the Arsenal game.

The need for PSG to rotate ahead of the Arsenal game

The Arsenal game is more important

Under the Qatari owners, the trophy that the club has wanted the most has been the UEFA Champions League. The closest the French giants have come to winning it was the final against Bayern Munich in 2020.

On that occasion, they lost 1-0 courtesy of Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman's goal. The desire to win in Europe stems from the fact that the owners were brought here for that sole reason.

In this edition of the tournament, they need to finish in the top eight in order to avoid playing two more games later on in the season for the playoffs.

If they get results in some of the big UEFA Champions League games then may be able to rotate prior to the next stage of the tournament. This should give Luis Enrique an incentive to not go strong on Friday.

The match is scheduled for Friday at 15:00 ET at the Parc des Princes. Rennes are currently in eighth position in the league, with 7 points from 5 matches.
