FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was a big target for Paris Saint-Germain last summer. Reports from Mundo Deportivo say PSG was ready to splash out a jaw-dropping €250 million to bring Yamal on board, blowing their previous record fee of €222 million out of the water. This really showed how much they see Yamal as a future star, possibly taking over from Kylian Mbappe.
Despite these ambitious plans, the move did not materialise, and PSG's interest in Yamal remained unfulfilled for the time being. The club seems to be admiring the player from a distance rather than having him join their ranks just yet.
PSG director praises FC Barcelona €250m star and clarifies rumours
Luis Campos, PSG's sporting advisor, addressed these transfer speculations during the Thinking Football Summit in Portugal (h/t Le10Sport). Campos acknowledged Yamal's talent but downplayed the rumours linking him to PSG:
"If all the players who have appeared in the press linked to PSG were here, we would have five stars in each position. Of course, I like Lamine Yamal, but also Dembele, Kang-In Lee, Asensio… Fantastic players of enormous quality."
"To say that Yamal is not a great player would be a huge mistake on my part, he is an excellent footballer and I am very happy to see him playing at his level. But PSG are very happy with the players they have in these positions."
He highlighted that if PSG had pursued every player mentioned in the press, the team would be filled with top-tier talent. Campos expressed admiration for Yamal, alongside other top players like Ousmane Dembele, Kang-in Lee, and Marco Asensio. However, he reassured that PSG was content with their current squad in these positions.
Spanish journalist Pedro Morales added that Campos was indeed willing to invest heavily to secure Yamal. Morales reported that Campos would have been prepared to pay €200 million of his own money to sign Yamal immediately if it were within his power.
