Mbappe questionable, Messi and Verratti available vs. Bayern Munich
At least the loss to Monaco (3-1) on the road brought some relatively good news to PSG. In his post-game press conference, Christophe Galtier confirmed both Lionel Messi and Marco Verratti will resume training on Monday with both most probably available and starting the game against Bayern Munich next Tuesday.
Just a few of days separate PSG from their Saturday loss to Monaco in the Ligue 1 and the clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League Round of 16. That's all of the time available for Galtier to fix his time, and for Messi and Verratti to make their very needed comebacks.
Both players are expected to play against the German giants, but Kylian Mbappe won't be able to play for PSG after all and judging by Galtier's statements at the Stade Louis-II.
"I do not think (Kylian Mbappe plays on Tuesday)," Galtier said. "Kylian will follow his rehabilitation protocol. He suffered a major muscle injury and the health of our players is very important."
The coach of PSG went on to say that the team "will not take any risks" regarding Kylian, while he and the rest of the coaching staff "hope to be able to recover Marco Verratti and Leo (Messi)" as well as "those who were on the bench this Saturday."
Galtier was referencing the likes of Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Presnel Kimbpembe, and even Fabian Ruiz. The latter couldn't even make the matchday squad against Monaco after suffering the symptoms of a virus on Saturday morning. The other three had off-the-bench cameos at Monaco, but none of them started the game.
Bayern Munich visit Paris on Tuesday for the first league of the Round of 16 of the Champions League coming off a 3-0 victory against Bochum in the Bundesliga on Saturday, quite different from the result harvested by PSG at the pitch of Monaco.
