Mauro Icardi had himself a day, will leave PSG next
Turkish side Galatasaray played a football game on Friday evening. Mauro Icardi is on loan at Galatasaray. The Istanbul team won 6-0 and Icardi scored three goals while assisting one more and missing one penalty kick. All of that said, PSG will lose him next summer.
The above statements are all factual. Barring the latter, which might or might not happen depending on what PSG and Icardi do next, and unless a very surprising development takes place in Paris during the next few months, Icardi will join Galatasaray for next season once his ongoing loan deal runs out next June.
Mauro Icardi arrived at PSG a few years ago in the summer of 2019 from Serie A side Inter having scored 111 goals (25 assists) for the Milan-based team through 188 games spread over six campaigns.
After spending three full seasons in Paris, winning a couple of Ligue 1 titles, but only appearing in 20, 20, and 24 matches starting just 35 of 64 league games in the French capital with yearly diminishing production, Icardi and PSG decided the best solution was for the striker to leave the team.
Paris Saint-Germain sent Icardi to Turkiye to play at Galatasaray on loan last summer in an effort to free the team for a bunch of veterans with no room in Christophe Galtier's plans such as Layvin Kurzawa, Julian Draxler, or Leandro Paredes.
Mauro Icardi scored three goals, assisted one more,... and will leave PSG next summer
So far, so good for the Argentina international playing in Turkiye, where he dons the no. 99 and he's bagged nearly as many goals. Icardi has scored 12 goals and assisted 7 for 19 total contributions through just 16 games and 1,273 minutes of play.
If all goes according to plan, Icardi will become a Turkish Super Lig champion in a few weeks. We have yet to know if the players employed and plying their trade in Paris would be able to same the same when all is said and done in the French competition...
As a reminder, Icardi recently confirmed his desire to continue his career in Istanbul, where he feels appreciated and loved by the fanbase, unlike in his days in Paris. For their part, the Turkish organization are ready to make efforts to recruit the former PSG striker.
There is a purchase option included in Icardi's loan deal quoted at €10m, and the player seems to be delighted by the charm of his new fans and supporters of Galatasaray in Turkiye. According to Le Parisien, the Argentina international would favor a move to Turkiye next summer.
