PSG had to dig deep to record a 1-0 win in their first Champions League game this campaign against Girona. Despite having several shots on goal the French champions took until the 89 minute to register their account against the Catalan side. They struggled to punish a side who were fresh from a 1-4 drubbing at home to city rivals FC Barcelona.

Here at PSG Post we dissect two things that stood out at the Parc Des Princes this Wednesday.

2 key takeaways from PSG's hard-fought 1-0 victory over Girona

1. Ousmane Dembele needs to be more clinical

Luis Enrique's side were wasteful in relation to finishing their chances particularly Dembele who missed the bulk of opportunities to open the French side's account. In the 51st minute, the French winger was through on goal and did not even shoot before Ladislav Krejci got back in the nick of time to put him off.

Shortly afterward his left-footed curler didn't trouble Paulo Gazzaniga in the Girona goal. The closest he came to scoring was when he had a tremendous effort which was arching towards the top corner before the Gazzaniga tipped it onto the bar.

2. Uneventful first half

PSG found chances hard to come by in the first 45 minutes. The only two opportunities of note were Zaire Emery's deflected shot from Hakimi's cross and Marco Asensio's effort which flashed agonisingly wide. In the second half the chances couldn't stop flowing for Luis Enrique's side.

Just three minutes into the second half Fabian's tame attempt was comfortably gathered by Gazzaniga. Moments later Hakimi's cross was spilled by Gazzaniga but nobody could get on the end of the rebound.

PSG were rewarded for their perseverance in the 89th minute when Gazzaniga had spilled Nuno Mendes low driven cross from the by-line.
