Breaking news came out of Spain on Saturday night as Cadena Ser reported a new development regarding the ongoing saga involving Portugal international Joao Felix and his future at Atletico Madrid.

Appearing on a late Saturday talk show, journalist Miguel Martin Talavera reported the latest information on the player and club saga.

According to Talavera, Joao Felix is "set to leave Atletico Madrid next January" once the winter transfer markets open. Jorge Mendes, the famous agent of the Portuguese player, "has already let Atletico Madrid know" about this situation, reportedly telling the club that "Joao Felix has multiple offers on the table."

Talavera said that "Atletico Madrid need to clear money in order to make their economy work inside the Fair Play context" while also adding that the Spanish club want to "revitalize the squad."

Joao Felix is under contract with Atletico Madrid, with the deal expiring on Jun. 30, 2026. That means that no matter how many offers the player might have gotten, it's up to Atletico Madrid to decide whether they want to accept or not the price other teams are willing to pay to acquire the Portugal international.

Joao Felix has multiple contract offers on the table, PSG might have submitted one to acquire him

Transfer website Transfermarkt has a valuation of €100M on Joao Felix. That seems to be low according to yesterday's report by Talavera, who said that "Atletico Madrid won't sell the player for fewer than €130M" this January.

That transfer figure is a massive amount of money, though, and the Spaniards seem to know about that and understand that might become a hurdle too high to clear for bidding clubs.

In order to make an operation work while staying inside the Financial Fair Play boundaries, clubs such as PSG bidding for Joao Felix would need to work out a creative solution. Talavera offered an obvious one, saying that Atletico could probably accept a loan deal with a future must-buy clause attached to it.

PSG already acquired Kylian Mbappe with a similar operation completed between the Parisian club and AS Monaco, who loaned the player to Paris Saint-Germain for a year but obliged PSG to exercise a buy clause at the end of that first season away from Monaco.

Speaking to L'Equipe on Saturday, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said that he "doesn't think" there will be any incoming transfers at PSG in the January transfer window.

That could very well change with opportunities such as this one involving young, established, superstar players like Joao Felix that would otherwise be even more difficult to acquire.

PSG would face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United, as reported by Talavera on Cadena Ser yesterday.

Joao Felix is playing in the World Cup with Portugal. The Iberian nation will face Switzerland in the Round of 16 next Tuesday. Joao Felix has played in two games logging 168 minutes and starting both with Portugal in the group stages.

This season, playing with Atletico Madrid, Joao Felix has appeared in 18 games scoring four goals and assisting three in 818 minutes of playing time. He's only started 10 of those 18 matches, though, and his relationship with coach Diego Simeone doesn't seem to be on the best terms. That could be the deciding factor in leading him to find a way out of the Spanish capital.
