Courted by PSG at the end of the winter transfer window, Matthijs de Ligt is no longer in Bayern Munich's plans for the next season. Is this an opportunity for the Parisian club?
One of PSG's priorities for the 2024 summer transfer window is to recruit a right-sided central defender. While Leny Yoro (18 years old) is the top priority, the path to signing the Lille player is complicated as Manchester United and Real Madrid are also interested, and Lille is demanding at least €60 million, which is a hefty sum for a player with only one year left on his contract.
During the last winter transfer window, PSG made an attempt in late January to sign Matthijs de Ligt, the Dutch central defender from Bayern Munich. This information was revealed by RMC Sport and confirmed by L'Equipe, which explained that PSG had worked hard on this deal before being rejected by the 24-year-old player.
Bayern Munich wants to sell De Ligt
Signed by Bayern Munich in 2022 for €67 million, De Ligt is under contract with the German club until 2027 but has only played 30 matches this season due to several injuries. According to information from Sky Sport Germany, the former Ajax Amsterdam and Juventus defender is a candidate for departure this summer.
Bayern Munich has indeed decided to sell him to replenish its coffers and relieve itself of his hefty salary, one of the highest in the Bavarian locker room (€15 million/year). Bayern has even already found his replacement in the form of German international Jonathan Tah (28 years old), but still needs to reach an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen.

PSG aims for a right-sided central defender
While PSG is looking for a new right-sided central defender, will they try their luck again with De Ligt, one year after already recruiting a central defender from Bayern Munich in the form of Lucas Hernandez? For now, no media outlet has mentioned this possibility, but it cannot be ruled out, even though the German club's asking price is still unknown.
Recently, L'Equipe explained that in addition to Leny Yoro, Luis Campos also highly appreciates his compatriot Antonio Silva (20 years old). However, the young central defender from Benfica Lisbon has a release clause set at €100 million, and there is little chance that the Portuguese club will let go of its player for a lower price.
