French Cup Round of 32 draw results unveiled, PSG don't know opponent
The French Football Federation held the draw of the French Cup round of 32 games on Sunday with all matchups getting decided for the games to be played on the weekend of Jan. 20 through Jan. 22. PSG will have to wait to know their final rival.
After defeating Chateauroux 1-3 last Friday, Jan. 6, PSG sealed their presence in the French Cup Round of 32 and are now just five games separated from lifting the Coupe de France for the first time since they last did it in the 2020-21 season.
PSG, though, won't know their opponent until later this week because of a series of issues involving their potential rivals.
As many as 14 Ligue 1 squads have qualified for the next round of the French Cup, which will be played two weeks from now. The draw for the Round of 32 matchups generated 11 games featuring at least one team from the French top-flight division, including PSG.
There will be three all-Ligue 1 matchups in the French Cup Round of 32; they won't feature PSG
The Round of 32 slate of games will be headlined by a clash between Olympique Marseille (36 points) and Rennes (34), both of them sitting inside the top four of the Ligue 1 table entering this week. The game will be played at the Stade Velodrome, home of OM.
There will be two more all-Ligue 1 matchups including one between Brest and Lens, and a second one featuring Toulouse and Ajaccio.
The only team currently playing in the Ligue 1 to earn home-field advantage for the Round of 32 will be LOSC Lille, who will be facing Pau (Ligue 1) at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
As things stand on Monday, Jan. 9, PSG could still play against any of the three teams between Pays de Cassel (Regional 1st), Reims SA (National 3rd), and Wasquehal (National 2nd). The outcome of the two games still to be played by those three teams between them will define the Round of 32 opponents of PSG.
