French Cup Final Preview: PSG Feminine vs Lyon

Paris Saint-Germain Feminine are all set to take on rivals Olympique Lyonnais, in the much-awaited French Cup final clash, on Saturday, May.13th.

PSG journey to the Final

In their first game in the competition, they met the hosts of the upcoming final, Orleans, and won 3-1.

For the Round of 16, the Paris side beat Dijon 2-0.

Their quarter-final matchup with Bordeaux was difficult, as they settled for a 0-0 draw during the 90 minutes. They went on to win 5-4 on penalties.

In a less dramatic semi-final they win 1-0 against Thonon Evian.

Lyon journey to the Final

They got off to the perfect start, beating Rodez with a massive margin of 8-0.

They met Montpellier during the Round of 16; they won 2-0.

The quarter-final was the most equal game thus far; they drew 2-2 with Reims and had to go to penalties to decide the winner. Lyon won 8-7.

The semi-final was less nerve-wracking for Lyon than the previous one, as they found victory against Fleury, winning 2-0.

Both sides have more of a similar run to the final, you would say. They weren't really in any danger of going out, except only one time each.

Overall, they have both done well during the competition, which makes this final even more exciting.

Previous meetings (Last three seasons):

PSG: 4W - 1D - 8L

Lyon: 8W - 1D - 4L

Not exactly a great stat in PSG's favor but the last time the two sides met, PSG were the winners of that game back in December.

They both are also fighting for the First Division title; there are currently three points separating them, Lyon on first and PSG under. They will have another game against each other in the League, just a week after the Cup final, a massive game for the title race.

Neither team will play in the Champions League final in June, as both were eliminated during the quarter-finals. PSG lost 2-1 on aggregate to Wolfsburg (this year's finalists), and Lyon went out to Chelsea after being 2-2 on aggregate, then losing out on penalties to the English side.

"A final, so it's a win; let's hope to keep the trophy at home," Karchaoui expressed before adding that she knows that "Lyon will be as motivated as we are."

Sakina then finished by saying, "We can beat them." showing fans her positive belief that the squad will bring the French Cup back to Paris for a second season in a row.

PSG Post Prediction

Lyon 2 - 1 PSG

Sorry for being pessimistic, PSG fans. With the recent lack of goals and many injuries, I don't think PSG will be able to do enough to secure the win.

They have an excellent defense to rely on and will keep them in the game, but Lyon is a difficult opponent to keep from scoring.

I think PSG will give it their all, and their players will give a good performance, and while I believe Paris has more than enough quality to beat Lyon, with how the recent results are going, Lyon might just be too hard of a job to get done.
