Former PSG striker reflects on time with Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe
Hugo Ekitike was a signing for PSG that generated a lot of excitement at the time. Young, talented, and French, he found himself competing against Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr, and Lionel Messi for playing time. In a recent interview, he reflected on his time in Paris.
The former Paris Saint-Germain forward spoke to Sky Sport Germany (h/t ParisFans.fr) about his time in Paris, expressing no animosity or regrets. He also shared his admiration for Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar.

His playing time
"Of course, you worry when you’re not getting playing time. However, I always felt the confidence of my teammates and the coach. I try to give back every day by doing my best."
His admiration to Neymar
"In terms of elegance, my favourite player is Neymar. I could spend hours watching videos of him on YouTube. I like to take inspiration from him. What he does on the pitch is incredible."
On Messi and Mbappe
"I was always impressed when I played alongside them. They are on another level. They always strive to do their best. I work hard to be like that."
Ekitike is a respectful young man. After a challenging time and not always the most flattering treatment from PSG management, he managed to bounce back.
Yet, he left without any bitterness, remaining measured and humble. His words about the "three fantastic players" show that he was well aware of being part of something significant.
He remains respectful and refrains from criticising the club, unlike some who speak negatively after leaving. It’s unfortunate that there wasn’t more depth in the conversation with him, but clearly, his level wasn’t sufficient, and time is of the essence at that level.
This season, he has already registered three goal contributions (one goal and two assists) in three matches in the Bundesliga and appears to be establishing himself as a key player for Eintracht Frankfurt.
We wish him the best for the future of his career.
